Examining Peter Jackson's Lovely Bones
Summary
He's become identified with big-budget epics like the "Lord of the Ring" movies and his "King Kong" remake, but Peter Jackson has his roots in supernatural thrillers -- making, as the New York Times points out, his adaptation of "The Lovely Bones" a sort of homecoming. Back to Article

Gordon Franklin Terry Sr writes: on Nov 02 2009 05:34 AM Lovely Bones sounds really cute. More like a pilot for a TV-series; because, if the girl dies and continues to watch over her family, her family will continue to have many, many misadventures and "cross-story" with many, many other friends and extended family. Lovely Bones sounds like, as a tv series, it can run 3 to 5 seasons. Adventure after adventure . . . and the girl can wind-up meeting other ghosts and such ( . . . on and on and on) Like DARK SHADOWS (on and on and on and on and on--and always very thought-provoking and interesting . . . and always keeps you wondering what will happen next episode) (Reply to this) |

Costigan writes: on Nov 02 2009 07:39 AM Really looking foreward to this one. The book was one of the best I have read in a long time. However I am worried about Mark Wahlberg's role. He really needs to carry this movie and I am not sure if he has the talent to pull it off. Whats that you say? He was nominated for an oscar so he must be talented? Yes he is talented, but this role has such emotional depth that he he will really have to do something that I have not seen in any of this past roles. This movie depends on the caliber of his and Saoirse Ronan's performance. I hope they can make it believable. (Reply to this) |

dj Mark writes: on Nov 02 2009 09:37 AM In reply to this comment (#2557893) I share your concern. Ryan Gosling may have been too young for the role, but he has the ability to convey the emotion required. Mark may prove he can as well. I certainly hope for Jackson's sake (and ours) that he can. Runtun writes: on Nov 02 2009 06:07 PM I'm looking forward to this one too. Don't get me wrong, I love the epic bombast of LOTR/King Kong but I've been waiting for Jackson to return to more intimate territory ala Heavenly Creatures. I am slightly worried about Wahlberg but Jackson is pretty good at getting solid performances from his actors. (Reply to this) |

martinscorsese25 writes: on Nov 02 2009 08:37 PM i have a question guys. i know it's not really related to the post but what's the lastest news on The Hobbit? Yes Del Torro has signed on to direct and yes there were reports that they are writing the script, but when does shooting begins? it's release date is 2011. maybe there is a problem creatively between Jackson and Del Torro. i mean, the film should start shooting now. Jackson had three year or four years to pre-prod and shoot before releasing the first of the trilogy. got any news guys? (Reply to this) |

martinscorsese25 writes: on Nov 02 2009 08:42 PM now onto the film. i have a feeling that Saorsie Ronan will outshine her cast members here. she's just so good of an actress even at such a young age. i just saw Atonement again recently and she pulls the british accent so well there while here in this film, judging by the trailers, she pulls off the american accent very well. i have a feeling that she'll be the next "Kate Winslet". Witty G Banter as Himself writes: on Nov 02 2009 11:41 PM So this movie 'isn%u2019t really a horror story, but a kind of dreamy meditation on the fragile boundary between life and death.' The boundary between life and death is the most concrete one that exists in nature. I don't expect much from Peter Jackson, but this actually sounds stomach-churningly awful. Is this really a story about a little girl that gets murdered by a creepy pedophile that has a happy ending? Can someone who didn't read the book just because they heard Peter Jackson was doing the film adaptation fill me in here? (Reply to this) |
