It made perfect sense to bring Doyle's book to the big screen--unfortunately the humor and emotion got completely lost in translation.

Reviews for I Love You, Beth Cooper
With its painfully awkward shifts between pat sentimentality, hackneyed teen-movie tropes and parent-baiting raunchiness, there's little to love about I Love You, Beth Cooper.
This is the worst version of Can't Hardly Wait imaginable. Denis shouldn't hang out with Beth. Beth shouldn't give Denis the time of day.
Chris Columbus has fallen off the edge of the earth. His latest film is a misguided ship sailing among an increasingly rocky body of work.
The filmmakers lacked the courage and conviction to tell an honest, character-based story and resorted to something that has been massaged into a more comfortable, easily consumable cinematic morsel.
Most of the characters are one-sided and boring and the actors who play them are so bad the movie suffers for it.
The woefully unfunny I Love You, Beth Cooper is a teen sex comedy's worst enemy.
Panettiere, I’m sad to report, is a dud as the title character, a supposed wild thang who never rises above the level of runty, obnoxious mall chick, down to the roll-on tan.
The troubles start with the casting. Rust is only 28, but he has the hangdog look of a 50-year-old plumbing salesman. Charisma is not his strong suit.
It just tries a little too hard. If the movie were a high school geek and the American audience were the prettiest cheerleader, this would not be a match.
A film so badly executed that you have to wonder if Larry Doyle (who serves as screenwriter) ever read his own book, let alone wrote it.
Here's the bottom line: Denis Cooverman might love Beth Cooper. But I don't.
Though one understands the desire to return to one’s roots, root rot is always a consideration.
