De Alpha Trigga writes: on Nov 05 2009 04:32 AM i got to admit that im actually a lil happy with dat news, as he goyer says that u dont have to watch the first one to understand this, so overall its kind of like the hulk(2008) but a sequel, well i actaully might watch this when it comes out if it get good reviews. Matanuki writes: on Nov 05 2009 04:41 AM Agreed, Alexson. And it doesn't hurt at all that Goyer's planning a darker, more existential route. That's certainly what a Ghost Rider film needs and deserves. No campy bull$hit, thank you. (Reply to this) |

De4ective Detectiv3 writes: on Nov 05 2009 04:45 AM Wait a minute, Goyer is promising an 'existential' take on Ghost Rider? He's comparing it to Casino Royale? In the words of Ricky Gervais 'Are you havin' a laugh?' (Reply to this) |

De4ective Detectiv3 writes: on Nov 05 2009 05:19 AM I hate every idea? You obviously weren't in on the 3 men and a baby sequel boards. Honstely though, I like how they cast a relative newcomer as mad max, but that is that last thing I can think of I liked in recent memory. I do think the only way they could improve upon the original Ghost Rider is by not making another one. And I mean that, from the depths of my soul. Ghost Rider was another in a long line of terrible marvel comic movie adaptations. The only notable things about it were Peter Fonda and that shot they recreated of the famous painting with the horse and the motorcycle riding side by side. You can only take Ghost Rider so seriously. He's not exactly the world's deepest superhero. G-Force made a lot of money too, if the writer goes on the record saying he's going to go w/ a deeper approach for the sequel you're gonna have to excuse me if I don't take him seriously. Bigbrother writes: on Nov 05 2009 05:28 AM I'd be in favor of this idea if I wasn't 90% sure he's completely lying in an attempt to lure me into another 2 hour suckfest...and not the good kind either. (Reply to this) |

Sulaco2k writes: on Nov 05 2009 05:49 AM I'm sure Goyer can do nothing but improve upon the original but honestly I'd rather not have him waste time on this garbage franchise to begin with. (Reply to this) |

Matanuki writes: on Nov 05 2009 06:11 AM In reply to this comment (#2558794) But this is Goyer we're talking about. He's at least earned the benefit of the doubt. At least. And while I agree with you unflinchingly on how bad the first Ghost Rider was, I can't help but consider that by the logic you suggest they should have stopped making Batman movies after B&R. I think we're all glad that didn't happen. Mind you, I'm not swayed. Trust me -lol- I know better. But I'm willing to reserve final judgment until we know and see more. After all, what if he does in fact deliver on the promise?.. If he doesn't then yeah, back to the dugout for you Goyer. But, what if he does?.. I'll play the utilitarian card and just say that if he manages to knock the ball out of the park with this one, then all is forgiven. (Reply to this) |

Matanuki writes: on Nov 05 2009 06:17 AM In reply to this comment (#2558795) And the canny son-of-a-b@%ch sure knows how to get us, doesn't he, Bbro? Using words we love like "dark" and "existential". lol. Still, I can't help but wonder; what, just what, if he means it? (Reply to this) |

De4ective Detectiv3 writes: on Nov 05 2009 06:46 AM There is a reason I have a lack of faith in Goyer. Blade Trinity, The Unborn, and The Invisible. Sure he might have co-written Batman, but I think his best effort was Dark City. (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Nov 05 2009 06:49 AM In reply to this comment (#2558808) I'm gonna have to wait for fan response on this one. Goyer has given us good stuff in the past, but he's also given us crappola. I'll wait til second weekend for this one to make sure I don't have to watch Wes Bentley doing Blue Steel at Nicholas Cage's Vacant Viper for another 2 hours of my life. (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Nov 05 2009 06:51 AM In reply to this comment (#2558808) I'm quickly losing my optimistic outlook for these kind of things. Whenever someone like Goyer or Hugh Jackman tells me they're going to do something "dark" and "committed to the source material" I get the same feeling I'd get if I saw an anonymous white van with a "Free Candy" sign driving past a school. Shatter24 writes: on Nov 05 2009 07:00 AM Goyer is a better writer than he is a director. Hopefully, Marvel can find a complimentary director (not Mark STeven Johnson), that can bring Goyer's screenplay to life while using some discretion about what to include and what not to. Just because director's can put almost anything imaginable onscreen in a movie nowadays, does not mean that they should. A stripped down, more existential Ghost Rider might be what the doctor ordered. I bet Nick Cage jumps ship before filming, though. He wants the jelly bean popping, stuttering goof-ball of a Johnny Blaze rather than a haunted one. (Reply to this) |

Matanuki writes: on Nov 05 2009 07:12 AM In reply to this comment (#2558814) LMAO! Duly noted, sir. Duly noted. And good call. I in no way am going to be swept up in the hype. I learned my lesson long ago -and I hate to bring it up but it certainly fits- with Spider-Man 3. It's funny, guys, but I still to this day watch the trailers and think for a moment that I simply could not have seen the same movie that they were advertising. And De4, you are so totally speaking to the choir on Blade Trinity and Invisible. Haven't seen Unborn yet, but I get your point. Nonetheless this guy's proven he is quite capable when inspired. I'm just hoping that this will be one of those times. (Reply to this) |

Matanuki writes: on Nov 05 2009 07:15 AM In reply to this comment (#2558815) If that is in fact the case, let's hope the THROW HIS A$$ off the ship rather than wait for him to walk. lol. Seriously though. (Reply to this) |

Cory B. writes: on Nov 05 2009 07:28 AM I don't see how it can be worse than the first, but then again, if Nic Cage reprises the role I don't see how it could be any better than mediocre. (Reply to this) |

Terry K. writes: on Nov 05 2009 07:31 AM Goyer is a good writer, but honestly, the original Ghost Rider was such awful garbage that I'm not going in for seconds unless I'm given a free ticket and popcorn. LUCKILY, I saw Ghost Rider on DVR (didn't shell out 10 bucks to see it onscreen), but I still had to fastforward through half the movie. I found the dialogue and the total lack of originality to be downright offensive. No thanks. (Reply to this) |

Gimy writes: on Nov 05 2009 07:39 AM thank god i'm not a comic book nerd and couldn't careless about these characters cuz this is the same bs EVERY single comic book sequel/original gets. the good ol' "we're gonna do it right...i promise. we'll do it for the fans man!" whatever. just make an entertaining movie ya suckups. the first one was entertaining as h3ll, i remember i fell out of my chair laughing in the final scene. just hilarious how bad that movie was. sucks for the nerds but the people who want to go see a flick and laugh...Ghost Rider was a classic. hopefully the sequel is just as funny (Reply to this) |

BUCK69 writes: on Nov 05 2009 07:41 AM In reply to this comment (#2558783) De4ective Detectiv3 - At first, I was going to echo Matanuki about your tendency to go negative on almost everything [which you do], but in this instance, you've made a very good argument. I've been hesitant to do so because I dig Batman Begins and Dark City so much, but I think Goyer is at best, hit-and-miss. Ghostrider [the movie] was crap to begin with. So you can't really compare what Goyer [with Nolan's help] did with Batman [after B&R] to this. (Reply to this) |
