A quietly engrossing, refreshingly unconventional love story balanced with just the right amount of gentle humor, warmth and subtle charm.

It’s his job to keep an eye on the security cameras installed throughout the building, but he doesn’t have a great deal to do because he works the graveyard shift when the store is like a ghost town. And so his life continues—until one day Jara discovers Julia, a 25-year-old cleaning woman, through one of the cameras and is immediately attracted to her. At first he spends hour after hour in front of the security monitors watching her, but, before long, he begins to follow her after work: to the cinema, the beach and even on a date with another man. Jara’s life becomes a series of routines and rituals around Julia, but eventually he finds himself at a crossroad and must decide whether to give up his obsession or confront it. --© Film Movement [More]

Reviews for Gigante
A spin on all the recent films utilizing video and found footage, this comedy from Uruguay has more than a few sweet, well-observed moments.
A laid-back drama that gives us a close encounter with a lonely man whose desire animates his life in a new and adventurous direction.
With potentially lethargic materials, Biniez has made a quiet, intent, involving film, a moony-innocent urban alienation fairy tale of bashful ogre and village beauty--and it never quite crests.
Is this guy Lloyd Dobler or Travis Bickle? That you’re still unsure until Gigante’s end is a credit to Binez and his actors, who don’t push Jara toward caricature and never pander to our sympathies.
Giddy guardian angel or sulking scary sicko? The director keeps audiences on their collective toes and guessing, for the continually surprising and deliciously quirky duration.
