JettaJameson writes: on Dec 01 2009 08:23 AM Kind of pulling away from the magic? Is that a joke? This is freaking Harry Potter. Not James Bond. We're going to the movie to SEE MAGIC!!! It would be like going to see an X-Men movie and having the producers say "We're kinda moving away from the mutant thing." WTF?! I just hope DH is better than HBP. That movie was pretty boring, and also skimpy on the magic. I'm just really looking forward to the final battle in pt 2. It had better be EPIC. And since they've alotted 35-40 minutes for it, it has a good chance of ending the franchise in style. (Reply to this) |

Goondockian writes: on Dec 01 2009 09:36 AM Jetta, I'm going to this movie to see an epic story come to an end. If you read the books the magic sort of takes a back seat to Harry's struggle with himself his friends and his task. While it's still Harry Potter these storys are not soley about magic. Terry K. writes: on Dec 01 2009 11:32 AM I've only read the first book, but seen a couple of the movies and I hate them. I hate Harry Potter as much as a jealous teenage boy hates Twilight. The last movie of Harry Potter had NO PLOT! Nothing happened for 3 entire hours. How that movie got such a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes is beyond me. Seems like all the critics drank the Kool-Aid. BrianMN writes: on Dec 01 2009 01:42 PM Love the Potter series but did NOT like the last movie. Enough with the teen romance/angst. All the good stuff from the book got cut. I hope the director learns from his mistakes with HBP. But after reading the article, it doesn't sound like it. :( (Reply to this) |

AniMill writes: on Dec 01 2009 01:46 PM HBP was the official bridge-movie for the Potter series - and I still thoroughly enjoyed it. But it's Hallows that I'm eager to see, so far my only disappointment was OotP, but not by that much (loved Umbridge!). These have been a really fun series to watch and grow-up along. They've moved from the happy little family movie of Sorcerer's Stone into some heavy emotional story lines, but they've always remained faithful to the books and fans. There're not many movies that can sincerely claim that. Good luck to Yates - we're all counting on you. (Reply to this) |

But a few of the HP movies were very good. I never read the books but as a moviegoer i did find a few of them entertaining. Im glad Chris Columbus only did 2. (Reply to this) |

Bigbrother writes: on Dec 01 2009 07:06 PM In reply to this comment (#2566979) Hmmm, I don't know about that. While I agree it's not solely about the magic as I recall the magic was always fairly prevalent. Especially in this book. For me magic is really the visual spice in the movies that makes them work as separate entities from the books. They aren't particularly loyal to the books for story and if you're going to do a successful adaption you either better be super loyal or give the audience something they can't get from the books i.e. eyepopping magical visuals to compliment the story. TheIceGhost writes: on Dec 01 2009 10:46 PM I think folks tend to take things too literally sometimes. I mean, c'mon, of *course* there will be magic and effects and junk, it's *Harry Potter*. There's tons of opportunity for CG Wizardry in the first half and a bunch has already been confirmed being in there, like The Seven Potters, for instance (for those of you in-the-know). This film is just going to have a different vibe, just like the book did. Plus, any effects you may be yearning for that *might* not be as prevalent in the first movie will most certainly be there in the second. Radcliffe has already been quoted saying that Part 2 is basically an action flick, and seeing how Warner Bros absolutely CAN NOT afford to blow it now, as well as this series' already proven track record, it's going to be great. I have full confidence in 'em and can't wait to see how they bring the final act to life. So in other words - chill, people. :) *runs off to take a nerd shower.* (Reply to this) |

dystopiandweller writes: on Dec 01 2009 11:27 PM If these last two films end up being masterpieces that end the movie series on an exalting note, I'll still be mixed about the series as a whole and I don't see myself ever going back and watching them all the way through again. Overall I'll have to proclaim it a failed experiment. Cuaron's entry was great though. (Reply to this) |
