Summary

"Terminator Salvation" may have been a disappointment, but the franchise is still worth a lot of money -- and now that the "Terminator" rights are preparing to hit the auction block, we're about to see just how much. Back to Article

hmm, Sony pictures huh, alright, I'll be the first one to say it, put Neil Blomkamp in the director's chair! You were smart enough to take a chance on D9, don't let us down Sony!

Oh god... somebody really needs to save this franchise, big time. I don't suppose there's a chance Cameron will swoop down and buy it back?

It won't matter who owns the rights--we just hope the movies will continue to be good.

With SONY buying THE TERMINATOR we may end-up seeing GOJIRA TAI TERMINATOR-GOJIRA sometime in the future.
English Translation: GODZILLA VERSUS THE TERMINATOR

Why not put the rights up on EBAY?

So I guess McG won't be returning.

Looks like JAPAN (SONY) will TAKE The Terminator Rights from America. Actually HEMDALE a British company initially owned the rights and totally mishandled The Terminator (in the film's release and delay in making a sequel).

I'm pretty sure, as time marches on and the internet continues to proliferate, we'll actually feel like a single global community and a single body-politic. The entire country is bankrupting; CTI (a lending company) filed for Chapter 11 yesterday due to an entire-global economic slowdown.

One of the people saying "challenging things" to me here over the summer actually lives in SOUTH AFRICA and I could have sworn she was American (when she's WELSH and lives in South Africa)
. . . we have to remember, we don't know AT ALL who we're talking to on these sites.

Dammit Gordo......Anyways, I really hope that whichever studio picks up the rights hires a director who is not totally full of BS. McG is such a lying, all talk and no walk yackass. The above poster who mentioned Blomkamp - now that is a good idea. I would also like to see (although I know a lot of these choices are not possible) David Fincher, Alfonso Cuaron, or (you guessed it) Michael Mann. Can you imagine a Terminator film at the helm of Mann? At least the gun battles would be interesting to watch.

These Terminator movies can go into any direction it wanted, just quit reusing the same plot, it can get pretty tiresome.

It would be fantastic if Cameron got back and board and then had the balls to title the film 'Terminator 3'. Of course that ain't gonna happen.

Yeah it would be great to see Cameron get involved with the Terminator franchise even if in a producing kind of roll. Blomkamp definately but maybe someone like John McTiernan could breath some new life into the franchise.

I am officially done with this franchise. I don't care if they get Cameron to come back. They can't recast John Connor over and over again and expect me to keep watching. For the record, I actually liked the last Terminator Movie, and while it wasn't great it was enjoyable and it seemed to be starting a promising dramatic arch that was intersting. If Christian Bale returns and they can continue that same arch then I might check it out. If they try another re-boot with a different cast I'll be in a different theater watching a movie not based on another movie.

Yes, it wasn't that bad. It certainly was better than Wolverine and Transformers 2. I think the reason it gets so much heat is because its in a franchise in which the first 2 were great so people had really high expectations for this. And I believe if they did a sequel to the last one it can definately be improved on.

keep Bale...ditch the rest. he was the only entertaining thing about it. i still can't understand how they made the trailers appear the flick is ALL about him but he's just a costar. not to mention there are NO bale related action figures or anything like that. that still makes me wonder everytime i'm in the toy section w/ my son. it had to have been on purpose, just no explanation as to why.

give the franchise to michael bay. its in the future, its all about blowing sh3t up and robots. its perfect.

Having Neil Blomkamp direct the next Terminator movie would be a good idea. While McG did good on the action, he failed to have a good story line to the movie. Also having Michael Bay direct Terminator would be a terrible idea. Yes, he can do action, but thats it. Most of the time Bay fails to put any compelling story to a movie.

haha - I don't remember who it was, but someone on here called Salvation a "franchise killer" shortly after seeing it. Doesn't seem to be far off.

I actually paid real money to see this movie on the big screen and I assume the reason it didn't do well because people assumed it was like the first three installments; obviously it wasn't.
