Leslie Bibb Added to "Iron Man" Cast; First Pic Online!

If you thought getting a new "Iron Man" castmember was exciting news, just wait 'til you see the first picture of Iron Man himself, online now!

It seems the "Iron Man" production, underway now for a May 2008 release, is adding cast members left and right. Last week it was confirmed that Shaun Toub ("Crash") would indeed play evil nemesis The Mandarin (though really, a Persian-British actor playing a Chinese-English technocrat?) and now comes word that Leslie Bibb ("Talladega Nights") is also joining the cast. Bibb, known best for her cheerleader role on TV's "Popular" a few years back, will play an as-yet unnamed "fast-talking reporter" who will doubtless cross paths with Robert Downey Jr.'s billionaire hero, Tony Stark.

The Hollywood Reporter also announces Bibb has nabbed the starring role in the "Wedding Crashers"-esque comedy "The Bachelorette Party"; she'll also appear in the Clive Barker adaptation "Midnight Meat Train" and this Halloween's horror flick "Trick 'r Treat."

But on to the "Iron Man" photo.

Your first solid look at "Iron Man" himself (aside from the pic's poster) comes courtesy of IGN Movies, and it's a good, clear character shot of the famed suit of armor. Click here for the image!

The Jon Favreau-helmed "Iron Man" stars Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges, Terrence Howard, and Gwyneth Paltrow and is due in theaters May 2, 2008.

i think Favreau said in an interview or on his Myspace that Tony Stark would be using the classic Iron Man armor early on in the movie (supposedly, Stark is held captive early on in the movie and puts together the armor from junk metal to escape) and as the movie progresses he'll put together armor more reminiscent of the red-and-gold armor the modern Iron Man wears.

yes, that is correct. his first set of armor is built by a fellow prisoner which he uses to escape. i'm ok with the look of it so far, since that's what this armor clearly is...

it's the same plot concept as the first spidey suit in Spiderman 1. Iron Man doesn't go on fighting Mandirin in a garbage can just like Spiderman doesn't fight Green Goblin in a pair of track pants.

If they're following the comics, then yeah, it looks decent. Obviously, he won't be wearing that through the entire movie. That's just the prototype before he wears the red and gold.

Is anyone else getting sick of these comic book movies??? Some of them turned out great but...I'm starting to miss movies with an "original" story.

The third one is definitely a painting. It was the cover art for an Iron Man comic that came out a while back.

what can i say? Hollywood has run out of original ideas. so they take comic books that have a built-in audience and make movies out of them to fill the theater seats. but hey, no one's making YOU watch these movies, are they? so don't watch them. and maybe if enough people feel the same way you do and follow suit, more comic book movies will start to bomb at the box office and that will force Hollywood to abandon comic book movies and come up with more original ideas. so good luck with that.

Frankly, I can live without original film ideas

. . . I'll settle for a halfway-decent flick now and again. Unfortunately, they're becoming all-too-scarce.

Instead we're saturated with copycat garbage like Electra, Daredevil, X-Men 3, Fantastic 4, and Ghost Rider. The Hulk was awful, but at least the filmmakers TRIED on that one. Even Superman was watchable(if a bit deflated)

X2, Spider-Man 1 + 2, Batman Begins ,and V For Vendetta are still the only good superhero flicks I've seen . . . and I thought it would be easier to make entertaining movies.

As bad an omen as that Iron Man photo is, I hope the film garners at least a mid-level standard of quality.

Ok... because they don't go into detail about the story of this suit... and the misleading way the article is worded... this is not the Iron Man suit that will be worn throughout the whole movie. This is the first suit he wears to escape after being kidnapped. (At least that's the way in the comics and animated movie) He later dons the red and gold. I believe someone said this earlier, but oh well. There it is again.

And Hellboy, that was good, right? I thought it was. And the first Blade was decent. Goddamnit, why do we always end up naming every good and bad comic movie in these threads? Anyway, yeah, the costume looks cool, pretty loyal to the original Iron Man armor; I don't see how anyone can complain about this when you look at Harry's costume in spidey 3.

My problem isn't with the armor...
It's with the build-up in the paragraph...

"Your first solid look at "Iron Man" himself (aside from the pic's poster) comes courtesy of IGN Movies, and it's a good, clear character shot of the famed suit of armor. Click here for the image!"

What a load of crap. Good, clear, character shot...of the armor that's not same as the one in the poster. Way to go, guys.

I agree that it's a prefectly fine shot of what the old armor looked like, but that's not at all what I expected before I clicked the link, and I honestly see no way that you would be expecting it to be that from RT's description of it.
