Tim Burton's Batman was a quintessential film when it was released in 1989, it brought Batman out of the ages of dumb comic book styled interpretations and brought him into the light(figuratively speaking.) thanks to the masterful genius of Tim Burton.

Batman was always a childhood hero of mine, so naturally this film was a childhood favorite of mine to watch whenever it is on the television. I still watch it when it comes on it's just that good and that refreshing. Tim Burton crafts a much darker and more deeply conflicted Batman that people had never seen before in those days. Burton set the benchmark and the future for Batman and how he should be played, it's a brilliant and dark start to one of the most beloved comic book hero's of all time. And is one of my favorite Tim Burton movies to date. All in all Batman is fantastic entertainment that won't cease to let up.

Michael Keaton(who is another actor I never heard of outside of this film until I saw Beetlejuice.) Is amazing as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He brings such despair and sorrow to his character he is just all around amazing in this. Jack Nicholson( Who rocks my world in this.) Is the show stealer as the maniacal and psychopathic Joker. I haven't seen anyone do it this good since Heath Ledger took the role in 2008(may he rest in peace.) But Nicholson is just plain nuts in this! He pulls off some of the things that made the Joker famous in the first place. Kim Basinger(Who is as lovely and great as ever.) Plays the smart and sexy Vicky Vale. She does great with the part and is good to look at but drags a little in some scenes and is nothing more than the damsel in distress. But all in all the cast is amazing in this handsomely mounted and well executed film.

Tm Burton's Batman is dark, compelling, amazing, breathtaking and oddly beautiful. It's a film that you can enjoy and watch as many times as you can take it, It's just that great and just that fun. All in all Batman is a landmark film in comic book adaptions and it really helped jump start a revolution in that area and is the greatest out of the Batman flick, hands down. It delivers.

Nice review, I agree this is a classic. I think I gave it like 80% on the tomatometer, and I too think that this is a movie I can watch over and over again... conveniently enough, it was on tv an hour ago!

I love this film. When i first watched it when i was younger, i was completely blown away by michael keaton's strong and essential performance. And Jack Nicholson was amazing, as always.

Great review of a blast from the past! This movie had the coolest billboard ads. Just big ole bat signals. Remember? And who could forget the (in)famous Prince tune? This was considered "awesome" in its day btw! ;)

Love the original Batman, and even the sequel Batman Returns that came later. I'll give a big thumbs down to those other two Batmans that will remain nameless for the sake of not opening bad wounds. I'm glad Nolan got the series back on it's feet, but we owe it all to Burton. Great review!

Good review. I loved Michael Keaton as Batman. I guess because, when he got the part no one thought that Mr Mom or Beetlejuice could be Batman. I thought he was wonderful in the part.

While Nolan's were good they've got nothing on Tim Burton's take on the Dark Knight.

I agree. I loved this movie because everything worked just perfectly and was entertaining all the way through. There had never been a super hero movie quite like it. And of course it had to take someone like Tim Burton to bring this great piece of entertainment out.

this is by far the best of the older live action batman movies, yet i feel it is slightly overrated.

there was some wierd decisions made, like to kill batman's greatest nemesis in such a stupid way.
